Kathmandu is a family run restaurant in the centre of Bristol, opened in September 2003 following twenty three years running two take-away outlets in Bristol (in Easton and Gloucester Road).
We import our own spices from a village in our home country of Nepal, giving the cuisine a unique flavour, unlike much of the Indian food found in the UK which can be heavy and oily.
We are Newari and come from Bhajungle, which is next to Kritipur in Nepal.
Nepal
Nepal, sometimes called "The roof of the World" is landlocked between
China and India. However, even with two of the largest jewels in Asia,
Nepal shines like a ruby in a bag of diamonds. Its landscapes are simply
breathtaking. Nepal is one of the most diverse countries in the world
with a climate ranging from arctic to a tropical paradise. It has hundreds of gorges and valleys with micro-climates. No wonder 10% of the world's bird population lives in Nepal.
In the south some of the world's endangered species live in jungles, such as the Bengal Tiger.
Also housed in the land locked country are two of the world's great religions and some of Hinduism's most sacred pilgrimage sites are found here.
Also Siddhartha Gautam, (Buddha, the "Enlightened one") was born in the south plains of Nepal. It is believed he walked through the Kathmandu Valley.
